昔日帶領工運的TJ，在英格蘭東北部的礦區小鎮苦苦經營一家酒館。「老橡吧」是鎮上僅存的公共空間，居民都視之為茶餘飯後的聚腳地。直至一班失去家園的敘利亞難民來到鎮上，居民排外的敵意令蕭瑟小鎮的氣氛變得劍拔弩張，酒吧頓成他們爭奪的地盤。寬容對待難民的TJ，一邊聽着街坊不堪入耳的激烈抨擊，一邊協助義工接濟難民，並與敘利亞少女Yara建立起友誼。社區分裂令TJ左右做人難，他能否找到一種方式，讓兩個族群互相理解共融？...
